How it works
Each unit is converted through a common base unit (metres for length, kilograms for weight, litres for volume). For example, miles are converted to metres using 1 mile = 1,609.344 metres and then to the target unit. Temperature uses formulas: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15.
Gallons, quarts and cups use US customary measures, which differ from imperial (UK) units.
Example
5 miles = 5 × 1,609.344 metres = 8.047 kilometres. 100 °C = 212 °F.
